Happy New Year! Highlights of December and Christmas 2013

As we go into a fresh New Year, Ms. Switzer and I would like to share some highlights from December in FDLK.  We had lots of fun in preparation for the Christmas season.
We practiced for our Christmas concert which turned out to be a great night!
The children visited loads of fun Math, Science and Literacy centres.
The children experimented with colour and mixed food colouring with pasta to make beads for our Christmas necklaces.
They added food colouring and mixed it to see what would happen.
They played in the snow during outdoor playtime.
The children set up an outdoor snow bake shop!
They made snow forts.
And snow balls!
They even rubbed some snow on the fence to see what happened when it brushed off.
The children made reindeer hats and jingle bell bracelets to make reindeer calls.  They got to use the pasta beads that they made.  They created patterns on pipe cleaners (Math and Fine-Motor practice). Ms. Switzer painted a red nose on the children so they could pretend to be Rudolph (Drama). They especially loved creating ice-cream cone trees with green icing and Fruity Hoop cereal. Writing letters and drawing Christmas pictures in shaving cream also proved to be a favourite!

The children had fun doing other Math and Literacy activities like writing letters to Santa; sticking tissue on paper mittens (hand-eye co-ordination and 1-1 correspondence); patterning with paint on candy canes and decoration paper trees with odds and ends.
They played with the Christmas Nativity, re-creating the Christmas Story.
We even played a game or two of "Freeze Dance".

Best Wishes for a Happy, Healthy New Year!
Stay tuned as we find more things to explore this winter season...
